First Impressions: Superfuse

In December, I was given access to the limited multiplayer beta for Superfuse, the upcoming Sci-fi hack n’ slash Action RPG developed by Stitch Heads Game Studio and published by Raw Fury. While I was definitely interested in this game since first hearing of it a few weeks earlier, I was not prepared to be blown away like I was. For an extremely early access build of the game, the controls were smooth, the action plentiful, and the combat was beefy and satisfying.

It’s no secret that I prefer more realistic style graphics, however the comic book art-style works perfectly to build atmosphere. It’s almost as if they took the graphics from Borderlands, and merged them with Diablo III’s combat, and the immersive experience of The Ascent.

The world of Superfuse feels very much alive.
Superfuse’s map overlay is reminiscent of Diablo II, and can be toggled on and off without interruption of the gameplay.

Loot

Oh yeah, there is plenty of it.

Skills

Oh yeah, there are plenty of those as well.

Color coded skills are reminiscent of Undecember’s system. The game, however, boasts virtually endless customization options.
Talent trees allow for even further customization.

Overall First Impression

Superfuse is an ambitious game, taking all the best parts of the genre and combining them together with unique graphics, rich and immersive atmosphere. I can’t really make any criticisms about the game yet because the game is in a very early state and will most likely change significantly before release. My only concern here is that the skill customization could be a bit too ambitious. Not that I think the level of customization is bad; just that it is on such a grand scale that it seems difficult to achieve. I may be wrong, but as of now, that’s the only thing which raises any type of flag. The game comes to early access on Steam January 31. Be sure to check it out.
