Why I Will NOT Be Quitting Diablo IV

One of the benefits of being an old man is that I have a large cache of failures and successes from which to draw little bites of wisdom. I’ve raised five kids, and each of them turned out pretty damn good. Over the years, I always taught them this single lesson:

If you want to be successful in life, don’t be afraid to take risks. But understand, if you take risks, you are going to screw up once in a while. The difference between success and failure is whether or not you get up after falling.

Right now, it’s really popular to shit all over Diablo IV. Some of it is justified, and some of it is like those idiots who say Metallica’s self titled black album is a bad album; they’re just talking out their ass because they like the sound of their own farts.

Diablo IV has some major issues; for me it’s the dungeons. It’s clear they were designed to be played in groups (which would explain why objectives are so spread out), but the developers failed to realize that a lot of people would be playing solo. They took a chance, and it didn’t work.

The Renown system is also a miserable slog fest that sucks the life out of the game. It should have been tied to the progression of the campaign instead of open-world exploration. World Events can be utilized to ensure we see the entire map and all the hard work that went into designing it, not renown.

The Renown Grind is Like Listening to Yoko Ono Albums on a Continuous Loop

But it’s not all bad. The story campaign is one of the best storylines since Arthas Menethil uttered, “This entire city must be purged.” And I’m not going to lie…I like Lorath Nahr even better than Deckard Cain.

Lorath has taken the #1 spot for Best Diablo Character

It’s clear from the quality of the story that love went into creating this game. The developers took risks and those risks didn’t all work out. However, I’m not ready to turn my back on them. I’m willing to stay for the long haul to see just where the team leads us. Hopefully it’s not into a farmhouse to be butchered.

Until next time…

See you in Sanctuary!
