Even with Baldur’s Gate III and Starfield, I’m still playing Diablo IV

Diablo IV hate videos have been popping up on YouTube these past several weeks like a raging case of herpes. Every day, it seems like another content creator is jumping on the Diablo hate train. Ironically, they all make the same arguments: gripe about the lack of content, bad season start, compare it to POE, claim they’re moving to Baldur’s Gate III (even though they’re completely different style games), etc.

They also all conclude their bitching and complaining with, “but I want D4 to succeed; I love a comeback story.” They all make either that exact statement, or some iteration of that statement.

My face after another D4 hate video pops up on YouTube.

I’m going to make a statement right now, which is 100% infallible: If you have put over 200 hours into D4 and then go on YouTube to complain about how bad it is, you’re full of shit.

Putting 200 hours into something you don’t like is masochistic or a symptom of some greater mental illness. You’re not putting the time in because the game is bad; you’re saying it’s bad in order to gain clout and get views, and you’re leaving yourself an out with “I want it to succeed…” so you don’t look like an idiot when the issues get fixed.

I’ve been very critical of D4’s issues, but I haven’t jumped on the “D4 bad” bandwagon like a clout-chasing internet sheep.

Yes, D4 has issues; yes it doesn’t have enough content; yes, I think D4’s issues are most likely due to a poor understanding of the genre on the part of the devs (See Adventure with a Dev)

This explains ALOT

But overall, D4 remains a fun game, and you guys & gals who put hundreds of hours in only to shit all over it on YouTube know this to be true.

I’m happy to say that I own both Baldur’s Gate III and Starfield. I’m currently also enjoying Trial of the Ancestors in POE. All are great games and I’m fortunate to be able play them. I play them because I enjoy them, not because I imagine that I’m somehow sticking it to Blizzard.

Am I a fanboy? Maybe a fanoldman. I do tend to listen to the Tristram theme on loop when I sit out by my fire pit, and I make no apologies for that. I like Diablo, and I don’t feel the need to shit on it just because that’s the current meta.
