I’ve Been Playing Diablo IV All Wrong!

Last night during Helltides, I got an invite to join a party. I’ve never played D4 in a group before and was hesitant to join because I wasn’t sure exactly how the experience would be. Normally, I stay away from multiplayer because 1) toxic assholes and 2) my lack of patience in dealing with said toxic assholes.

I accepted the invite and a whole new D4 experience opened up for me. Three hours later, I saw everything the developers were trying to accomplish, and realized that I had been playing the game completely wrong. Unlike previous Diablo games, D4 was MEANT to be played as a multiplayer game.

Playing D4 in multiplayer is like playing a completely different game.

The best comparisons I can think of are Dauntless and Monster Hunter. Both games are incredibly repetitive when you play them alone, but when you play as part of a group, that experience becomes much more enjoyable.

Helltides were a blast, and those dull, repetitive, and boring nightmare dungeouns with the shitty objectives were suddenly fast and exciting, feeding my brain with copious amounts of that sweet dopamine. Three hours later, I felt like the guy in that old Six Flags Ultratwister commercial.

Here’s How to Play the Season:

Moving forward, at season start, play the campaign and then pivot to playing multiplayer for post-campaign leveling and end-game. Your experience will be completely different; I promise.

Grinding Nightmare Dungeons is actually fun when you are in a group.

If you’ve been bore and frustrated with D4, I would encourage you to find a group of people and play multiplayer. You won’t be disappointed.
